Mounjaro (tirzepatide) activates both GIP and GLP-1 receptors — a dual mechanism that clinical trials show produces greater average weight loss. The SURMOUNT-1 trial showed average weight loss of 20.9% of body weight over 72 weeks. Wegovy (semaglutide) activates GLP-1 only. The STEP-1 trial showed 14.9% average loss over 68 weeks.
